A Bucket List Desire

A Bucket List Desire

Fly free with the wind
A parachute to you I'll lend.
Lead the way wings feel, inspired
Come on let's do what we've aspired.

Dreaming of a skydiving trip,
The cord we will let 'er rip.
It's better to be safe than sorry
That's what daddy used to say

Fly free with the wind.
Let's set a whole new trend.
At last we are freed
To strive to succeed

Gee that was fun, oops, my stomach I just kneed.
Oh the pain has set in, Pepto's what I do need.
Apparently the thrill is gone from my aspiration.
I reckon we'll shelve that bit of inspiration.

Fly free with the wind,
To our bucket list we must tend.
Ah there's one!  Ride an elephant!
Off to the zoo we must go, don't be so jubilant!

There is nothing else on this trip you will need
Except perhaps a flashlight and bandages indeed
Cause I hear they truly do stinketh,
And can really rub raw your derriere, it's gonna oucheth.

Ah the majesty, the splendor, the awesome size.
Oh no what is this?  My fear of heights could be my demise.
Who'd of thunk they were so high off the ground.
Look at all those ants running around.

Alas the Bucket List appears to be shorter now,
With the riding of an elephant my head will bow.
For truly the privilege is all ours to ride such mastadonian creatures,
With the highly intelligent and well seeing features.

Let's put this madness of ours to an end
Running against the wind in verdant green meadows of the glen
Type out our goodbyes and press send
Tears riding in the cyber wind

The Bucket List of things to do before our demise,
Will have to wait another day for now the sun does rise.
I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go.
Dreaming of one more line to scratch off the list don't you know.

Ringing up a stuffed elephant for a little girl,
Makes me more resolved that upon that elephant I will whirl.
A Halloween mask reminds me of another task,
Oh to once again be an actor on stage, with a very large cast.

Scribble, scribble, dribble I go,
Adding to the list, and losing a bit of my drink, oh no!
Let's fly free in the wind, if but for a little while longer,
Reminiscing about all the good we can do if to long we don't linger.

My Bucket List Desire compatriots include:  Cheryl, Diane, Sevenamagenta, Michelle K, Lost Souls, Glenn, Ev, Sheila a, Jules, and your servant in Christ Copenator out!

Barrell Roll

The pilot deftly twisted the plane sideways.
His control of the maneuver is fascinating in many ways.
Every moment in the air, in this vintage plane,
Brings moments that cause me to exhale in wonder.

One moment the ground is before us, so close to the shore
Of the lake we are flying over and the next there once more
We appear motionless, in mid air, I cannot stop the trembling
Anticipation of what I know will be coming next the rolling!

The sky twisting and turning,
The heart fluttering and stomach churning.
The exhilaration of it all at the same time
And then the gentle, relaxing after roll climb.

The pilot, skilled and able to handle every situation
Suddenly finds that an error has been made, confusion!
The noises that surrounded us moments ago
Silenced and motionless just before the roll and plummeting we go.

No yielding to the commands of the pilot,
The plane is now no more than a bullet trembling
As speed is gained and the water below grows to a larger spot.
Ejected and feeling so dejected, we float safely into the water boiling.

The plane is now in the throes of the crash and strewn all about.
We two once enjoying the sights are now drenched, debris lilting slowly down.
The scene in a way is so serene.
Until at last I awaken to the pain that was perpetrated by the barrel roll gone awry.

Undaunted by the tragedy of that day
Let me to each of you say.
"If at first you are thrown from the sky
Just get up again into the blue wild and again fly!"

Winner! Second Place in Stormy's Poetry Contest in the WDC.

Distressed vs De-stressed

Distressed Versus De-Stressed
by Steve Cope
11-17-2009
inspired by Images in Ink in the WDC

This world is at times so rubbery
Things just make so little sense like robbery.
What's up with that, how can it be conceived
And in the end of the event so many are peeved.

To what gain? To what end? Temporary cessation?
A momentary injection of liquid nerves, what purpose does it serve?
The commonality of it as astounding, in ever country, town and nation
Does one find another who feels this is what is owed them, what they deserve.

This world is at times oh so nosensical, like the logic switch is disconnected.
What is wrong and known to be so, is often done anyway, it just seems so disjointed.
Here, there, and everywhere one does confront such as this,
Brother let me say one day the world will reataliate with a hiss!

The snakes will defy logic and swim in the deep blue sea
Rather than sunning themselves in the limbs of a nice oak tree.
What was once up is now down and two way is no longer but one!
How strange things will be then and how odd the craziness be done.

What can be done to rein in this chaos that is imminently lurking nearby?
What path can we take that will lead to the opposite effects and allows us to lie
Quietly without a care of the world falling off it's axis
And the ordinary will return like paying your taxes?

What is the answer that we are looking for to keep the world together?
Watch and see what makes all our cares and concerns light as a feather.
A solution is within reach and on any given Sunday a pastor does preach
About the One who is in control, even when the world it seems is on the breach.

It often sounds so simple, so contrived, but you know it is true and that's the truth!
One Savior, one Lord, one King, one Creator, and one God who loves us one and all
The Word is full of such awesome displays of faith, just look at our sister Ruth.
Or how about that giant of a king who at times had it all and then many times did take a fall.

Listen to the plea of this your servant in Christ
One thing I did learn from this awful thing some call a heist.
As bad as it is, and the effects are still lingering even as this is addressed
At the cross, the Savior did in fact take all our burdens so we can become de-stressed.
